ComeOn Obtains Ontario Licence
Last Thursday, ComeOn was granted a gaming license by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG). The 31st company to receive one is now ComeOn. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has approved the operator’s registration as a sports betting operator. And it took effect on April 21. The approval is for a period of two years, until April 2024. This would make ComeOn the 12th operator with a two-year license, with most receiving only one year’s approval before.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the province’s lottery operator, has a licence that expires in 2052. On April 4, Ontario launched its regulated market. On the day of launch TheScore, BetRivers, 888, PointsBet, LeoVegas, Bwin, Bet365, FanDuel and BetMGM all received licenses. After three years of planning to open up the market, the government announced intentions to terminate the lottery’s online gambling monopoly in April 2019. In September last year, the newest internet betting and gaming standards were released.
ComeOn Joins IBIA to Qualify For the Ontario License
The online gaming standards, for example, included a number of restrictions regarding game design, such as a prohibition on autoplay. Operators needed to join an integrity body like IBIA under the sports betting regulations. ComeOn Group announced the start of a long-term membership with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) for all of its betting brands last week. It will feed data into the IBIA monitoring and alert platform. Joining IBIA was an obvious next step for ComeOn, since the company wants to provide a product experience that enables players to use their platform without having to worry about betting-related malfeasance.
IBIA, with its members accounting for over $137 billion (€115 billion) of global betting turnover each year and nearly 50% of all regulated commercial operator online betting activity, welcomes ComeOn as a member. The IBA is all about informing both sports authorities and regulators about suspicious betting on its members’ markets. The membership includes highly advanced monitoring and reporting layer. And that will help protect ComeOn’s player base by gathering important information. It also provides knowledge on certain sports betting behaviours. As a responsible gaming company, ComeOn Group will continue to improve their betting services in order to provide a secure and safe player experience for its customers.
