FanDuel Removes Daily Fantasy Product Before Ontario Launch

FanDuel Daily Fantasy to be removed in Ontario

In line with Canadian province Ontario’s rules for licensed companies, FanDuel will cease providing its daily fantasy sports product in the province on April 1. On April 4, Ontario will end its ban on legal sports betting and iGaming, allowing both to become legal. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) just published a guide for businesses. It states that enterprises that apply for registration before April 4 must shut down in Ontario. They must take action from the moment of approval of their license.

As a result of obtaining a license, FanDuel has chosen to withdraw its daily fantasy sports brand. This includes both free and paying games, because the new law doesn’t allow it. However, the company’s daily fantasy sports brand would continue to be available in other provinces and territories. All entries submitted before April 1 will continue to be valid, and all earnings are fully eligible for withdrawal. In September 2021, the province released its final guidelines for online casinos. The Online Gaming Regulations prohibit auto-play and limit the spin speed of slots to 2.5 seconds. There is a debate over whether Ontario’s plan to open up its market is in accordance with Canada’s Criminal Code.

FanDuel Fantasy and Responsible Gambling

In Ontario, the Responsible Gambling Council’s RG Check Accreditation Program is a prerequisite for legal gaming operators. The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) launched RG Check in 2010 to help gambling businesses and gaming sites evaluate, monitor, and manage all elements of their responsible gambling strategy and operations. At land-based casinos in the Canadian province, the software is already in use. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, which will oversee the regulated iGaming market when it launches on April 4, 2022, decided to include RG Check as a requirement.

RGC CEO Shelley White stated: “RG Check is a clear and tangible signal of the government’s commitment to making public protection and sustainable play a priority and a key part of creating a culture of responsible gambling here in Ontario. “RG Check is a leading responsible gambling accreditation that is used by jurisdictions around the world. The RG Check symbol is a demonstration to all that the operator is committed to and has strong gambling safeguards in place.”
