Over the years, the NFL has been a place where some individuals have transcended the sport by achieving and winning trophies that the majority never achieved before. Below, is my curated list of the top 10 NFL players of all time.
10. Barry Sanders
Despite never competing in the Super Bowl, Barry Sanders was a very talented player and probably the greatest running back of all time. His speed and quickness made him very difficult to take down. Playing for the Detroit Lions from 1989-1998, Barry Sanders manage to break the record for the first player to rush for 1000 yards in his first 10 seasons.
9. Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning is very well known for his hard work and intense preparation before the game. Considered by many one of the greatest Quarterbacks in the sport, Peyton played for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos from 1998 to 2015. He won 2x Super Bowl Championships, was a five-time NFL MVP and has even more honours to his name.
8. Reggie White
Reggie White was a phenomenal defensive player that has one hell of a highlight reel. Playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers, he managed to win one Super Bowl Championship, was voted 2 times the NFL defensive player of the year, and many other trophies that made him a legend of the sport.
He played at the highest level from 1985 to 2000.
7. Johnny Unitas
Another player that changed the sport was Johnny Unitas, considered by many as the first great quarterback. Unitas won the Super Bowl once and was named NFL MVP three times, and won the NFL championships three times. He was the first Quarterback to throw for more than 40,000 yards and he was also the first QB to throw 30 touchdown passes in a season. He played from 1956 to 1971 for the Baltimore Colts and the San Diego Chargers.
6. Jim Brown
Jim Brown played for the Cleveland Browns from 1957 to 1965 and retired when he was only 29 years old. Considered by many as the best running back ever, he was the first to ever reach 100 rushing touchdowns in the history of the sport. He was the NFL Rookie of the Year in 1957. He was NFL Champion in 1964 and was named as the NFL MVP three times. He also made the All-Pro first team 8 times.
5. Walter Payton
Walter Payton known as Sweetness was the kind of player that every NFL coach wants to have on their teams. Playing for the Chicago Bears from 1975 to 1987 he is very well known for his Acrobatic jumps that no one else had the courage of doing. He was a one-time Super Bowl champion. He also broke Jim Brown’s record for most rushing yards. He was NFL MVP in 1977 and made the All-Pro first team five times in his career. Unfortunately, Walter Payton died in 1999 of cancer at only 46 years of age.
4. Joe Montana
Joe Montana was clearly not the type of stereotypical player that everyone thinks about NFL athletes. Having very skinny legs and not being very strong for a sport that requires a lot of strength, Montana surprised everyone with his amazing talent and unique calm. Playing as a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. He won the Super Bowl 4 times and he holds the record for most throws without any single interception. He most well known for his amazing partnership with Jerry Rice.
3. Lawrence Taylor
Lawrence Tayler is without any doubt the best defensive player of all time. If there is a player that could score and defend at the same time it was him. Those who watched NFL in the 80s will always remember how dominant and controlling this player was. Playing only for the New York Giants from 1981 to 1993, he managed to win the Super Bowl twice. He was NFL MVP in 1986 and was selected as an All-Pro first-team player 8 times.
2. Jerry Rice
For everyone who watches the NFL and knows the history of the sport will know how good Jerry Rice was. This player changed the sport in ways never seen before, being the number one wide receiver of all time, Rice won the Super Bowl 3 times and played for the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders. Being very well known for his hard work and determination, Jerry was active from ’85 to 2004, almost 20 years playing at a high level.

There is no better player than Tom Brady. Considered by many as the Goat, Brady has won 7 Super Bowl titles, something that no one has ever done before in the history of the sport. The American football quarterback played most of his career for the Patriots from 2000 to 2019 and now plays with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Among his many accolades, he has been NFL MVP three times and made the All-Pro first-team three times.
